These are example topics, not published accounts. They
indicate the intended structure of the page. No student names, quotations, or
photographs will be published unless genuinely submitted; invented material
has no place on the site of a youth organization.

Writing experience is not required. Having completed an exchange is.
A first-hand account is the most valuable material this site can carry. A prospective student reading an honest description of a difficult second month, and how it resolved, learns considerably more than any page we can design for them.
Guidance for contributors
- Choose a single subject. One week, one occasion, or the point at which the language became automatic. A month-by-month summary of the full year is the least effective format.
- Include the difficulties. Homesickness, an unsuitable host family placement, or a day that went badly. These passages carry the most credibility with readers.
- Aim for four to six hundred words. Longer submissions are welcome where the material warrants it.
- Address your former self. The guidance you would have valued before departure.
Submissions, complete or in draft, may be sent to [email protected] with your name, host country, and exchange year. We are glad to help with editing.
Photographs
Photographs are welcome. Rotary requires signed written permission from any person appearing in a photograph or video, and because most exchange students are minors this requires a parent or guardian signature. No identifiable image will be published without it.
